Financial Assets

Learn about financial assets and how they relate to your overall financial health.

Financial assets include security, certificate, stock, and non-cash assets. These do not include things that have value that are not easily made into cash such as cars or jewelry. Financial assets are an important contributor to your overall financial health and are a valuable asset to your income.

Having a financial asset must give you ongoing profit. If it doesn’t constantly stream in revenue, than it is not a real asset. You should invest properly in financial assets like a business, stock, or a rental property.

A business provides constant profit. A business could mean a physical business with a commercial property, products or services, and perhaps employees and staff. You could also start an online business, which has less up front costs. Instead of an expensive property you just need a domain name and web host. You could even have a business on eBay or Craigslist selling stuff you already own, and skip the expenses of buying products. You could also sell things that you make, or invest in a franchise like a restaurant. A business requires a lot of initial hard work but after it is settled you will begin to have a steady stream of profit gained from this financial asset.

Another financial asset is stock. When investing in stock, it is best to start modestly. It is easy to get carried away and end up owing money, so start small with a business you are familiar with. If you use the products or services from that business, chances are plenty of other people are too and you won’t be taking a large risk. As you learn more about investing in stock you can put more money up front for larger amounts and sell them for more money. The basic rule is to sell when prices are high and to buy when the cost is low. It is helpful to keep an eye on the stock market in the newspaper or through the internet for noting the trends of your stock. With enough practice and learning you will learn the ropes of how to earn more money and how to sell your stock at the right time.

The last example is a rental property. This can be as simple as renting an extra room in your house. You can use the extra money (profit) for your own needs. You can also take the opportunity to be a landlord and rent or lease apartments. Both of these methods require different levels of work involved and the payout is relative to how much work you put in for this financial asset.
